Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship: No. 4 Miami, Ohio, pulled off a March miracle by beating No. 2 Akron 53-52 in the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship. Doug Penno sprinted down the court following a missed free throw by the Zips and heaved a prayer with about a second remaining. It banked in, giving the RedHawks the victory — but not until the officials took 10 minutes to review the play to see if the clock started on time. They decided the shot was good, but Akron had 0.6 seconds left to return the favor. The Zips’ inbounds pass was off the mark, and they didn’t get to attempt a shot. Tim Pollitz led Miami with 19 points. [3/10/07]
