Illinois State Makes Jankovich Head Coach: Kansas assistant Tim Jankovich will be Illinois State’s new basketball coach, the school announced Tuesday. Jankovich has been an assistant coach for a number of years. He assisted Eddie Sutton, Jack Hartman, Lon Kruger, Kevin Stalling – a former Illinois State coach – and Bill Self, whom he spent his last five seasons with. He also was the head coach at North Texas from 1993-97 and JuCo power Hutchinson Community College from 1997-99.
Jankovich replaced former Illinois State coach Porter Moser, who was fired March 5 after four fruitless seasons. There is excitement looking to next season and hopes he will return the Redbirds to the NCAA tournament, which they haven’t been to since 1998. [3/22/07]
