Patton Back in the Saddle: Former Colorado head coach Rick Patton, who stepped down from the position with the Buffaloes just 11 days ago, was named Northern Illinois’ new basketball coach Monday. Patton, who spent 11 years with the Buffaloes, announced his departure from Colorado in October after growing tired of waiting for a contract extension. He had a 184-160 record with the team, six winning seasons and two trips to the NCAA tournament in 1997 and 2003. The 48-year-old will try to resurrect a Northern Illinois program that lives in the shadow of football. The Huskies, coming off a 7-23 season, have had only one winning season in the past 11 years.
