Bennett Inks Seven-Year Extension: Washington State has given first-year coach Tony Bennett a seven-year contract extension through 2014. Bennett, who succeeded his father, Dick, as the coach after last season, led the Cougars to a school record-tying 26-win season and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The 37-year-old also recorded the first NCAA Tournament victory in 24 years for the Cougars, a 70-54 rout of Oral Roberts in the first round. Such success caused speculation that Bennett would leave for a higher-profile school program, but Washington State’s director of athletics, Jim Sterk, quickly inked him for seven more years. Financial terms were not disclosed. [4/01/07]
