Former Buckeyes Coach Gets Suspension Cut: The NCAA decided to only reduce former Ohio State coach Jim O’Brien ‘s five-year suspension to two instead of dropping it, making it harder for him to seek employment at another NCAA school during that time. The reduction comes as a result of the NCAA deciding to throw out violations that accused O’Brien of giving $6,000 to a recruit. Three violations and part of a fourth were dismissed after NCAA enforcement staff missed by two days a 2005 deadline for filing the charges. O’Brien ‘s restriction lasts until May 8, 2009, but the NCAA said he could seek work if he were to appear before the committee first “to consider whether the coach’s athletically related duties should be limited.” [5/5/07]
