Former Spartan Assistant Back With Michigan State: Mike Garland, part of Michigan State’s program from 1996 to 2003, will rejoin coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans as an assistant coach. Izzo said he was excited to add someone who was present during the Spartans’ Final Four runs and championship season. The two were also teammates at Northern Michigan. After leaving Michigan State, Garland became Cleveland State’s head coach and went 20-63 in three seasons at the helm. He spent last season as an associate coach at SMU. [5/7/07]
