Ball State’s Coach Gets Racist Notes: Ball State is conducting an investigation to track down the origin of racist notes found in the offices of coach Ronny Thompson and his staff. Thompson, the Cardinals’ coach since April 2006, had broken NCAA rules that summer by inadequately monitoring players during gym sessions. He had another improper slip with NCAA rules in May of this year by being at voluntary offseason team workouts. The notes, which were slipped under Thompson and his staff’s office doors, accused them of being “cheaters ” and ” liars”. Thompson was said to be on vacation and unreachable at the moment. He went 9-22 in his first season at Ball State. [7/1/07]
