Jimmy Walker Dies at 63: Former Providence All-American and NBA first-round draft pick Jimmy Walker has died of lung cancer at 63. The 6-3 guard averaged more than 30 points a game as a senior in 1967 when he led the nation in scoring. He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons that year and played in the NBA for nine seasons. Walker, father of longtime NBA player Jalen Rose, held the school record for points at 2,045. Ryan Gomez broke it in 2005. He averaged 16.7 points per game for his NBA career, including a high of 21.3 in 1971-72. [7/4/07]
