Ball State Investigation Comes Up Empty: Despite the work of fingerprinting experts and interviews with more than 30 people, Ball State’s investigation into racial notes targeting former coach Ronny Thompson and his staff has not produced any suspects. The school’s director of public safety said the investigation has yielded no credible suspects, and the search has reached an impasse unless someone provides new information. Thompson and his staff received racially insensitive notes in their offices in June. The coach resigned July 12 as accusations of NCAA violations loomed. Thompson mentioned that a “racially hostile work environment” existed at the university. Ball State hired Lehigh coach Billy Taylor in August to replace Thompson. [9/14/07]
