Pittsburgh Officials Reduce Fields’ Charges: He’s not clear of the law yet, but Pittsburgh point guard Levance Fields is not in as much trouble as he first appeared to be after a nightclub incident in September. Prosecutors will only charge with Fields with simple assault and drop the charges of disarming a police officer, public drunkenness and aggravated assault. Fields is on probation for nine months and must complete 50 hours of community service. Police reports indicate that Fields knocked over an officer and reached for his gun before the officer’s partner subdued Fields with a Taser. Coach Jamie Dixon is waiting for Fields’ legal dealings to end before deciding whether to suspend the team’s starting point guard. Fields averaged 9.2 points and 4.6 assists per game last season.
