Indiana: Hoosier Assistant Resigns Amid Growing Concern About Violations

Hoosier Assistant Resigns Amid Growing Concern About Violations: Indiana assistant coach Rob Senderoff resigned Tuesday, corresponding with the public release of a report on recruiting violations committed by Senderoff and other Hoosier coaches. Senderoff worked for Indiana for a season, joining coach Kelvin Sampson when he left Oklahoma for the Hoosiers’ head coaching position. Senderoff received a $46,000 severance package as part of his resignation.

The university has already punished Sampson and his staff by reducing the number of scholarships available for 2008-09 and requiring Sampson to forfeit a pay raise. As part of the violations, the coaches made more than 100 phone calls that violated NCAA rules or sanctions. Senderoff made most of those calls. Although the report, which the Associated Press got through a Freedom of Information Act request, is critical of the violations, it does not directly accuse Sampson of violating NCAA rules or sanctions. The coach needs to avoid additional recruiting trouble and violations because Indiana and the university are watching him closely after he and his staff made 577 calls that violated rules during a four-year period while they were at Oklahoma.
