NCAA: NCAA Upholds Text Messaging Ban

NCAA Upholds Text Messaging Ban: In an overwhelming vote, NCAA delegates decided to uphold a ban on coaches sending text messages to recruits. The ban had little opposition from anyone outside the coaching community, which reacted strongly when it went into effect last August. The head of NCAA’s Student-Athlete advisory council said players consider text messages to be intrusive. However, the rapid pace of technological development might make the ban a temporary fix. Coaches can e-mail players as many times as they want, for example, something that may become more common as coaches and players begin to use cell phones, like the iPod, that have that capability.
