South Carolina: Odom to Retire at End of Season

Odom to Retire at End of Season: South Carolina coach Dave Odom will end his 31-year NCAA coaching career and retire when this season concludes, ESPN’s Andy Katz reported. Odom, 65, is in his eighth season with the Gamecocks. In 21 years as a head coach at East Carolina, Wake Forest and South Carolina, Odom has amassed a 392-260 record. Nine of Odom’s teams made the NCAA Tournament, including one Elite Eight appearance when Tim Duncan and the Demon Deacons terrorized the rest of the country. Odom also led six of his teams to the NIT, including three titles. The Gamecocks won back-to-back NIT championships in 2005 and 2006. [1/17/08]
