Williams and Coach K Fuel the Fire: The Duke/North Carolina rivalry is already one of the most intense clashes in sports. The team’s two coaches are adding intrigue to the March rematch by trading barbs in the media. After the Blue Devils’ loss at Wake Forest, coach Mike Krzyzewski told the media that freshman Nolan Smith has been playing through a knee injury during the past few weeks. He added that he does not discuss injuries, “unlike other schools.” North Carolina coach Roy Williams interpreted that quote to be a shot at the Tar Heels’ injury woes, which have been a story throughout the season with guards Ty Lawson and Bobby Frasor missing significant time. Duke beat the Tar Heels 89-78 in Chapel Hill Feb. 6 with Lawson sidelined. He should be available when North Carolina goes to Durham for the rematch March 8.
