Indiana: Sampson and Indiana Part Ways

Sampson and Indiana Part Ways: Indiana and coach Kelvin Sampson have reached a settlement that will pay Sampson $750,000 and end his tenure as the Hoosiers’ coach. In his second season with the team, Sampson has run afoul of NCAA recruiting rules. In response, Sampson agreed to resign for the $750,000 buyout of his contract. An anonymous donor provided $550,000 of the sum. In Sampson’s place, assistant coach Dan Dakich will lead the team. The NCAA outlined in a report released last week the impermissible phone calls to recruits made by Sampson and his staff. In addition, Sampson and his staff inhibited the NCAA’s investigation by lying. [2/22/08]
