Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Semifinals: No. 5 Saint Joseph’s moved a step closer to the NCAA Tournament with a 61-53 win against No. 1 Xavier in the semifinals. Senior forward Pat Calathes led the Hawks with 24 points and eight rebounds, including five three-pointers. Saint Joseph’s defense held the Musketeers to one three-pointer. Xavier averages eight per game.
No. 2 Temple shut down No. 6 Charlotte 60-45 to set up a Philadelphia Big Five clash with Saint Joseph’s for the Atlantic 10 title. The Owls won their sixth consecutive game to make a late push toward the NCAA Tournament. Senior guard Mark Tyndale led Temple with 20 poitns and 15 rebounds. [3/14/08]
