Big East Conference Tournament Semifinals: No. 1 Georgetown continued its masterful play at Madison Square Garden by taking out No. 5 West Virginia 72-55. Senior center Roy Hibbert was dominant with 25 points and 13 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. The Hoyas also shot well from three-point range, hitting 7-of-17 three-pointers.
No. 7 Pittsburgh will play the Hoyas for the Big East title after the Panthers beat No. 6 Marquette 68-61. The Panthers’ defense frustrated Marquette and its shooters all night, holding the Golden Eagles to 31.7 percent shooting from the field. Marquette scored only two points in the final nine minutes of the first half. Junior forward Sam Young led Pittsburgh with 22 points. [3/14/08]
