ACC: Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Semifinals

Championship Week 2006
Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Semifinals: Junior forward Tyler Hansbrough hit a 12-foot jumper on the baseline with less than a second remaining to propel No. 1 North Carolina to a 68-66 win against No. 4 Virginia Tech. Hansbrough finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, and his fourth offensive rebound was the biggest. Both teams struggled in shooting as the Hokies held the Tar Heels to 40 percent from the field but shot only 39.7 percent themselves.

No. 3 Clemson finally got a win against one of the ACC’s top two teams after coming close during the regular season. The Tigers beat No. 2 Duke 78-74 with a strong defensive effort. Sophomore forward Trevor Booker led the Tigers with 18 points and seven rebounds. Clemson will play the Tar Heels in the championship, the Tigers’ first appearance in the ACC championship game in more than 40 years. [3/15/08]
