Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship: No. 1 Kansas beat No. 2 Texas for the third consecutive year in the Big 12 championship game, and the 84-74 victory might be enough to give the Jayhawks a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Junior guard Mario Chalmers had an excellent game with 30 points, six assists and four rebounds. He also hit 8-of-12 three-pointers. Kansas hit 15 three-pointers to counter the Longhorns’ 12. Texas kept it close by committing only three turnovers. The Longhorns struggled in the closing minutes, scoring only three points, all from the free throw line, in the last four minutes and 44 seconds. [3/16/08]
