Weekend Roundup – February 14th

Connecticut 62, Seton Hall 54: Let’s continue the talk of Hasheem Thabeet for national Player of the Year.  He had 25 points, 20 rebounds and nine blocked shots to come up one shy of a triple-double.

Syracuse 98, Georgetown 94 (OT): It’s amazing the Orange pulled this one out, considering they did so much to try to give it away in regulation.

Oklahoma 95, Texas Tech 74: Blake Griffin feasted on the Red Raiders, as he has so often this year.  This time, it was to the tune of 40 points and 23 rebounds, his third 20-20 game of the season.

Texas 85, Colorado 76 (OT): The Longhorns complete a bounce-back week after losing three straight, winning on the road Saturday.

Baylor 72, Texas A&M 68: The Bears needed this one to avoid falling off the map any further.

Wake Forest 86, Florida State 63: By now, the question has been begged of which Wake Forest team will show up on a given night.  On Saturday, the team that had people talking about them as the top team in the land showed up.

Maryland 83, Virginia Tech 73: The Terrapins make things a little more interesting among ACC bubble teams with this win.

Kentucky 79, Arkansas 63: 45 points from Jodie Meeks helps the Wildcats continue the Razorbacks’ slide in SEC play.

South Carolina 75, Alabama 73: Don’t look now, but the Gamecocks are right there among the SEC East leaders at 7-3.

LSU 73, Mississippi 66: The Tigers continue to look like the only team in the SEC West with much of an NCAA Tournament hope other than winning the conference tournament.

Arizona 84, UCLA 72: The big three are clicking for the Wildcats, who have won seven straight and send UCLA home with two losses on the trip to Arizona.

Washington 103, Oregon 84: The Ducks’ hole now reaches 0-13 in the Pac-10.

Oregon State 54, Washington State 52: This hurts for the Cougars, who fall to 5-8 in the Pac-10.  Any remote hopes they might have still had for an NCAA at-large bid are probably gone now.

California 82, Stanford 75: The Golden Bears continue to get back on track after a recent slump.

Penn State 68, Minnesota 63: The Golden Gophers continue their slide, losing their third in four games and falling to 7-6 in the Big Ten, which puts them even with the Nittany Lions.

Purdue 49, Iowa 45: It wasn’t pretty at all, but it’s a road win and one that should boost the Boilermakers.

Wisconsin 55, Ohio State 50: The Badgers have come back to life of late, improving to 7-6 in the Big Ten.

Boise State 66, Utah State 56: A stunning end to Utah State’s winning streak, which had reached 19 games.

Saint Mary’s 77, Portland 65: It’s not Gonzaga, but knocking off the Pilots, who came into the game at 7-2 in the West Coast Conference, helps with Patrick Mills still out.

La Salle 75, Saint Joseph’s 68: Could the Explorers be playing spoiler again this year?  The Hawks have now lost two in a row after moving to become even in the loss column with Xavier nearly a week ago.

Creighton 82, Southern Illinois 60: Just hard to fathom the Salukis, no matter how young and no matter how much injuries have hurt, getting blown out like this at home.

George Mason 64, Northeastern 53: A second straight loss for the Huskies, one where they looked good at times but struggled in the second half.

Old Dominion 69, VCU 65: Both teams that were tied atop the CAA to start the day were losers on the road, so the race just gets a little more interesting.

Cornell 79, Dartmouth 76 (2 OT): Just like that, the Big Red are back on top of the Ivy League, though it didn’t come easily.

Radford 66, UNC-Asheville 65: With next Saturday’s showdown at VMI looming, the Highlanders grab a one-game lead atop the Big South by opening their three-game road trip with a close win.
