Weekend Roundup – February 28th

Connecticut 72, Notre Dame 65: Another hit to Notre Dame’s NCAA Tournament hopes.  A win here might have put them a lot closer to “lock” status.

Oklahoma 78, Texas Tech 63: Blake Griffin showed no ill effects in his return, going for 22 points and 19 rebounds, and also diving over the score’s table for a loose ball.  Concussion?  What concussion?

Oklahoma State 68, Texas 59: Who would have thought that the Cowboys and Longhorns would have identical Big 12 records this late in the season?

Georgetown 56, Villanova 54: Too little, too late for the Hoyas?  It all depends on what they do in the next two weeks.

Florida State 73, Clemson 66: If the Seminoles weren’t seen as an NCAA Tournament lock already, this should put them there.

Washington 83, Arizona 78: The Huskies clinch at least a tie for the Pac-10 regular season title, something that probably no one outside of Seattle expected back in October.

Washington State 51, Arizona State 49 (OT): The Cougars remain hot late in the season, sweeping the Arizona schools just like cross-state rival Washington did.

Stanford 75, USC 63: The Trojans really needed this game for their NCAA Tournament at-large hopes as it drops them to 7-9.

LSU 73, Kentucky 70: This home loss wasn’t what the Wildcats needed, as they continue to slide after at one point looking like they might be a lock for the NCAA Tournament.

Butler 58, Cleveland State 56: The Bulldogs clinched the Horizon League with this win, something that seemed like a foregone conclusion a few weeks ago.

Brigham Young 63, Utah 50: The race for an at-large among Mountain West teams got a little more interesting with this one in Provo.

Creighton 74, Illinois State 70: Quietly, the Bluejays have put together a 14-4 Missouri Valley mark that ties them with Northern Iowa for the regular season title.

VCU 69, Georgia State 41: The Rams win their third straight CAA regular season title.

Western Kentucky 68, Middle Tennessee State 49: The Hilltoppers continue their winning ways by knocking off the preseason favorites in their gym.

UT-Martin 79, Morehead State 65: UT-Martin wins its first-ever Ohio Valley regular season championship.

Harvard 71, Cornell 70: This was the surprise of the night in the Ivy League, as the Crimson send off their seniors on a good note.  They also prevented the Big Red from clinching a share of the Ivy League title.

Dartmouth 67, Columbia 53: The Big Green continue to protect their home court, and at 7-5 have clinched their first .500 season in league play since Terry Dunn’s first season at the helm.

Penn 64, Brown 54: Can you believe this is the first home win of the Ivy League season for Penn?  They lost their first five games.
