Missouri Valley: Tournament Will Produce a New Champion in ’09

(7) Wichita State 59, (10) Missouri State 46

Freshman guard Touré Murry led the Shockers with 16 points as No. 7 Wichita State beat No. 10 Missouri State 59-46. Three Shockers reached double figures in scoring, while only one Missouri State player hit more than two baskets. Freshman forward Kyle Weems finished with 20 points, but he received little support from any of his teammates. The Bears shot only 29 percent from the field. Wichita State will play No. 2 Creighton. The Shockers split the two regular-season games against the Blue Jays.

(9) Indiana State 62, (8) Drake 55

No. 9 Indiana State used a 15-0 run during the final six minutes of the first half and first three minutes of the second half to build an insurmountable 21-point lead against No. 8 Drake. The Sycamores made enough free throws in the final 15 minutes to hold off the defending Missouri Valley champions for a 62-55 win. Senior forward Jay Tunnell led Indiana State with 18 points. The Sycamores advance to play No. 1 Northern Iowa Friday.
