Sophomore guard Charles Jenkins played 40 minutes for No. 5 Hofstra and scored 27 points to lead the Pride to a 79-66 win against UNC-Wilmington. The victory game Hofstra a season sweep against the Seahawks, who struggled on offense, shooting only 32 percent from the field. The Pride will play No. 4 Old Dominion Saturday. Hofstra won the only meeting between the two teams 60-51.
(8) Georgia State 54, (9) Delaware 41
It wasn’t pretty, but No. 8 Georgia State stymied No. 9 Delaware 54-41 to move into the quarterfinals against No. 1 VCU Saturday. The Blue Hens shot only 28 percent from the field, a season low. Junior guard Joe Dukes led Georgia State with 15 points.
(7) James Madison 70, (10) William and Mary 48
No. 7 James Madison smacked around No. 10 William and Mary 70-48 to advance to the quarterfinals. The Dukes got 19 points from junior guard Pierre Curtis. On defense, James Madison held William and Mary to 1-of-18 from three-point range. The Dukes will play No. 2 George Mason in the quarterfinals. They won at home against the Colonials in early February but lost on the road in January.
(11) Towson 73, (6) Drexel 62
No. 11 Towson took advantage of an awful start by No. 6 Drexel and built a 25-point halftime lead to cruise to a 73-62 win. The Tigers led 15-0 nearly seven minutes into the game, and they expanded the lead to 39-14 at the half. Senior forward Junior Hairson led Towson with 24 points. The Tigers will play No. 3 Northeastern in the quarterfinals. The Huskies won the only regular-season meeting 68-53.
