(9) Canisius 74, (8) Loyola, Md. 68
No. 9 Canisius took advantage of No. 8 Loyola’s offensive struggles to win 74-68. Loyola went five minutes without scoring in the first half and watched the Golden Griffins erase a nine-point disadvantage. In the second half, Loyola scored only seven points in 11 minutes, allowing Canisius to build a seven-point lead, which it would not relinquish. Sophomore forward Greg Logins led Canisius with 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Golden Griffins will play No. 1 Siena in the quarterfinals Saturday. Canisius hung with the MAAC regular-season champ less than a week ago, losing by four at home.
(10) Marist 43, (7) Iona 40
In a low-scoring defensive battle, No. 10 Marist beat No. 7 Iona 43-40. Iona gave away the game by failing to make free throws. If the Gaels had hit just four of the 11 free throws they missed — the team made only 6-of-17 — they would be moving on to face No. 2 Niagara instead of the Red Foxes. Senior forward Ryan Schneider and junior guard David Devezin each scored 14 points for Marist.
