Mississippi State: Bailey Severely Injures Ankle

Mississippi State sophomore forward Elgin Bailey will miss the rest of the season after seriously injuring his ankle in the Bulldogs’ 80-71 win against Florida Wednesday. Bailey averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game for Mississippi State. The Associated Press reports that Bailey will need several months to fully heal.

“Bailey dislocated his right ankle with about 8 minutes left in the game when he landed awkwardly while jumping. His foot hanged at a disturbing angle after he fell and coaches feared the damage would be severe.

But tests showed Thursday morning that Bailey escaped the injury without any broken bones or torn ligaments. He will be put in a hard cast Tuesday for six weeks and doctors hope he’ll be running again in three months.”

Mississippi State moved to 18-12 with the victory but has only a slim shot at making the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 85 in the RPI and have only win against the top 50 and three losses to sub-100 teams.
