America East: Binghamton Ends Underdogs’ Run

(7) Albany 56, (2) Vermont 52 OT

For the second time this season, No. 7 Albany beat No. 2 Vermont, as the Great Danes needed overtime to get past the Catamounts 56-52. In a seesaw battle, Albany went up by 16 points early in the second half but scored only 13 points the rest of regulation. Vermont took advantage and rallied to force overtime as Player of the Year Marqus Blakely had 22 points. Junior forward Will Harris led the Great Danes with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Albany will play No. 6 UMBC. The Great Danes lost to the Retrievers 68-64 last weekend.

(6) UMBC 79, (3) Boston U. 75 OT

One of only three Retrievers to significantly contribute on offense, senior forward Darryl Proctor hit two of his team-high 33 points to force overtime for No. 6 UMBC against No. 3 Boston University. In the extra session, UMBC found a way to emerge with a 79-75 win.

(1) Binghamton 73, (9) Hartford 65

No. 1 Binghamton picked up its ninth consecutive win by beating No. 9 Hartford 73-65 to move into the semifinals. The Bearcats became the first favorite to win in the quarterfinals, as freshman guard Malik Alvin and junior guard Emanuel Mayben were more than Hartford could handle. Alvin finished with 28 points, including 14-of-17 free throws. Mayben had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Hawks stayed close by hitting 10 three-pointers.

(4) New Hampshire 76, (5) Stony Brook 73

No. 4 New Hampshire beat No. 5 Stony Brook 76-73 to move into the semifinals. The Wildcats hit 11 three-pointers to fuel their offensive attack. Senior guard Tyrece Gibbs led New Hampshire with 18 points.
