Colonial: Maynor Puts VCU Into Championship Game

(1) VCU 61, (4) Old Dominion 53

Senior guard Eric Maynor and the No. 1 VCU Rams slowly ground No. 4 Old Dominion into submission, winning 61-53 to move into the CAA championship game. Maynor finished with 23 points, four rebounds and four assists. Old Dominion struggled to find anyone who could consistently hit shots, shooting only 32 percent. If the Monarchs had not made 20 free throws, they would have been blown out.

(2) George Mason 56, (11) Towson 48

No. 2 George Mason set up a clash of the CAA’s top two teams by ousting Cinderella. The Colonials beat No. 11 Towson 56-48 after the Tigers had upset Drexel and Northeastern in two consecutive days. Sophomore guard Cam Long hit two clutch three-pointers to help George Mason fight off Towson. He finished with 14 points, including a deep three-pointer as the shot clock expired in the closing minutes. George Mason lost the only regular-season meeting with VCU by five.
