Patriot: Gilmore Bails Out American

(1) American 61, (4) Army 60

Senior forward Brian Gilmore put No. 1 American on his back and carried the Eagles to a 61-60 victory against No. 4 Army, which had failed to score more than 36 points against American in either regular-season meeting. Gilmore finished with 19 points, including a game-tying three-pointer with 42 seconds remaining and a free throw with 3.6 seconds to go that gave the Eagles the win. He also scored 12 straight points to bring American back from an 11-point deficit in the second half. American will face Holy Cross, the only team in the Patriot League to beat the Eagles during the regular season, in the championship game.

(2) Holy Cross 61, (6) Colgate 44

No. 6 Colgate barely shot 20 percent from the field in the first half and mustered only 14 points, falling too far behind to rally in a 61-44 loss to No. 2 Holy Cross. The Crusaders’ defense dominated the game, and junior forward Eric Meister provided enough offense with 19 points to help push Holy Cross into the America East championship game.
