West Coast: Gonzaga, St. Mary’s Get Semifinals Opponents

(4) Santa Clara 80, (5) San Diego 69

No. 4 Santa Clara senior center John Bryant put on the one of the most noteworthy performances of Championship Week so far, leading the Broncos to an 80-69 victory against No. 5 San Diego by scoring 24 points, grabbing 27 rebounds and blocking four shots. He single-handedly out-rebounded the Toreros, who had only 23 rebounds. Bryant’s performance helped Santa Clara overcome 20 turnovers. The Broncos will face No. 1 Gonzaga in the semifinals. The Bulldogs beat Santa Clara twice during the regular season, including a 40-point beatdown in January.

(3) Portland 69, (6) Pepperdine 45

No. 6 Pepperdine struggled from everywhere except the free throw line in a 69-45 loss to No. 3 Portland. The Waves shot 26 percent from the field, including 1-of-14 from three-point range. In comparison, Portland had a balanced offense with three players in double figures and 52 percent shooting as a team. Junior guard Nik Raivio led the Pilots with 16 points. The Pilots will play No. 2 St. Mary’s. Portland beat St. Mary’s by 18 points while Gaels guard Patty Mills was injured.
