(1) VCU 71, (2) George Mason 50
Senior guard Eric Maynor is returning to the NCAA Tournament after No. 1 VCU knocked off No. 2 George Mason 71-50. When Maynor last appeared in the tournament, the Rams upset No. 6-seed Duke and nearly made a run to the Sweet 16. VCU’s MVP led the Rams with 25 points and eight assists. He got plenty of support from sophomore forward Larry Sanders, who dominated inside with 18 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks. He helped erase the Colonials’ offensive attack, limiting George Mason to 31 percent shooting.
