MEAC: Morgan State Obliterates Rattlers in Quarterfinals

(6) Bethune-Cookman 52, (11) Maryland-Eastern Shore

No. 6 Bethune-Cookman freshman guard C.J. Reed was about the only player from either team to shoot well in the Wildcats’ 52-47 win against No. 11 Maryland-Eastern Shore. Reed finished with 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting. The Hawks shot less than 30 percent from the field.

(1) Morgan State 71, (8) Florida A&M 41

No. 1 Morgan State shredded No. 8 Florida A&M 71-41 to advance to the semifinals. Junior guard Reggie Holmes led the Bears with 18 points. Morgan State’s defense held the Rattlers to 25 percent shooting from the field, and the Bears kept every Rattler from reaching double figures in scoring.

(2) South Carolina State 57, (7) Hampton 56

Both teams failed to score in the final two minutes, and No. 2 South Carolina State survived for a 57-56 win against No. 7 Hampton. Freshman guard Jimmy Williams led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Hampton sophomore guard Brandon Tunnell missed a would-be game-winner at the buzzer.
