Junior forward Grant Maxey, senior guard Darrion Griffin and junior forward Garrison Johnson scored all but 10 of the Tigers’ points in a 72-65 win. Maxey, Griffin and Johnson formed a nearly unstoppable trio that scored 62 points and made 19-of-36 shots. Jackson State forced 16 turnovers and held Texas Southern to 40 percent shooting. Jackson State will play the winner of No. 3 Prairie View and No. 6 Mississippi Valley State.

SWAC favorite No. 1 Alabama State took care of business in the quarterfinals, beating No. 8 Alabama A&M 70-58. Senior guard Andrew Hayles led the Hornets with 23 points. The team’s solid shooting and strong defense helped it overcome 17 turnovers.
