(1) Xavier 66, (9) St. Louis 47
No. 1 Xavier held No. 9 St. Louis to less than 50 points for the second time this season in a 66-47 quarterfinal victory. Senior swingman B.J. Raymond was 3-of-3 behind the arc and finished with 18 points to lead the Musketeers. Xavier committed only seven turnovers and out-rebounded the Billikens 32-18 for a commanding advantage in efficiency.
(4) Temple 79, (5) Saint Joseph’s 65
No. 4 Temple beat cross-town rival No. 5 Saint Joseph’s for a third time this season, winning 79-65 in the conference tournament. Senior guard Dionte Christmas was cold for the Owls, making only 1-of-10 shots, but junior guard Ryan Brooks helped pick up the slack with 19 points. Temple held the Hawks to 34 percent shooting in the game and will face Xavier in the semifinals. The Owls lost to the Musketeers by nine in early February.
(7) Duquesne 78, (2) Rhode Island 74
Despite giving up 20 offensive rebounds and missing 11-of-23 free throws, No. 7 Duquesne found a way to beat No. 2 Rhode Island 78-74. The Rams shot 43 percent from the field, which was not enough to keep up with the Dukes, who made 53 percent of their shots and 10 three-pointers. Sophomore forward Damian Saunders led Duquesne with 20 points, and sophomore swingman Bill Clark added 19 points and 13 rebounds.
(3) Dayton 69, (6) Richmond 64
No. 3 Dayton beat No. 6 Richmond 69-64 thanks to its advantage in the post and solid shooting from junior guard Marcus Johnson, who led the Flyers with 15 points. Dayton’s 44-25 rebounding advantage and strong defense helped mask major foul shooting troubles. Dayton made only 18-of-37 attempts. The Flyers will play No. 7 Duquesne in the semifinals. Dayton won both regular-season games with the Dukes.
