(2) Memphis 89, (10) Maryland 70
No one debates that No. 2 Memphis can play shutdown defense. However, the Tigers’ offense has been inconsistent at times. But Memphis fired on all cylinders against No. 10 Maryland in an 89-70 blowout that wasn’t in doubt as early as midway through the first half. Memphis shot 59 percent for the game, including 70 percent in the first half. Freshman point guard Tyreke Evans led the Tigers with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists. He led five Tigers in double figures. Memphis’ shooters hit 10-of-19 three-pointers. The Tigers are nearly impossible to beat when they are shooting well from everywhere and playing their typically stalwart defense.
