(1) North Carolina 84, (8) LSU 70
Despite speculation that a toe injury would keep No. 1 North Carolina’s Ty Lawson out of today’s game, the senior point guard played and poured in 21 second-half points to lead the Tar Heels to an 84-70 win against No. 8 LSU. The Tigers trailed by nine at halftime, but senior guard Marcus Thornton and junior forward Tasmin Mitchell carried the team to a big comeback that tied the game at 63. The Tar Heels responded with a decisive 17-2 run in which Lawson scored seven points. He finished with 23 points, six assists and no turnovers despite playing in obvious pain at times. Junior guard Wayne Ellington added 23 points for North Carolina.
