Wake Forest sophomore guard Jeff Teague announced that he will enter the NBA Draft but will not sign with an agent, which means he could return to school. Teague averaged 18.8 points and 3.5 assists per game this past season. He had his best moments against top competition, led by 34 points in a win against North Carolina. Teague also scored 30 points against BYU when the Demon Deacons ended the Cougars home-winning streak. Wake Forest coach Dino Gaudio said in a press release that he supports the decision and hopes to see Teague in a Demon Deacon uniform next season.
“Jeff has proven himself to be one of the top players in the nation,” said Gaudio. “The NBA allows a student-athlete to declare for the draft and withdraw one time during their career. This will be a chance for Jeff to be evaluated by the NBA scouts and general managers and to get feedback on his strengths and weaknesses. I am optimistic that Jeff will be back at Wake Forest next year and that he will have a good idea of the type of junior season he needs to have in order to ensure a solid professional career.”
