After finishing a solid season, sophomore point guard Jonny Flynn announced he would return for his junior year despite predictions that he’d be a first-round NBA Draft pick. The lure of the NBA might be about to draw in Flynn and claim last two years of eligibility. The Post-Standard reports that Flynn is close to signing with an agent, although it has not happened yet.
In a conversation with Flynn this afternoon, the sophomore point guard said he is home in Niagara Falls and has not signed with an agent but plans to sometime this week. Nothing is official.
Flynn went home for Easter weekend and was expecting paperwork from an agent to arrive in the mail on Friday or Saturday, but it did not, and he is waiting for it to arrive.
Syracuse announced last week that juniors Eric Devendorf and Paul Harris would enter the draft, and Flynn would enter without an agent. The university’s press release does close the door on a possible return of Devendorf and Harris. However, the fact that the release only mentions Flynn as a player entering the draft without an agent would indicate that the Orange are in jeopardy of losing 56.2 percent of this past season’s scoring in just those three players.
Syracuse men’s basketball players Eric Devendorf and Paul Harris plan to enter their names into the 2009 NBA draft. Jonny Flynn has decided to submit his name for the NBA draft but will not retain an agent, enabling himself the opportunity to return to Syracuse for the 2009-10 season.
