Evansville: Sophomore Guard Needs Major Knee Surgery

Evansville sophomore guard Kavon Lacey will have major knee surgery in early May after tearing his ACL and damaging his knee cap in practice April 7. Lacey averaged about four points and two assists per game for the Purple Aces as the team’s primary reserve guard. A university press release provides more information about the injury.

The surgery will be performed by UE team physician Dr. Andrew Saltzman, who estimates a four- to six-month rehabilitation period for Lacey.  The one-month period between the injury to the knee and surgery is common because doctors wait for swelling to reduce prior to surgery.  In Lacey’s case, he also suffered a stretched lateral collateral ligament (LCL) that required time to heal prior to surgery on the ACL.
