Florida: Tyus Emerges From Swamp to Transfer

Florida sophomore forward Alex Tyus has decided to transfer to another school after the semester ends. Tyus averaged 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and was poised to have a big season for coach Billy Donovan in 2009-10. With Tyus’ departure, Donovan has witnessed a parade of Gators leaving Gainesville in the past two years, as ESPN.com points out.

Guard Nick Calathes declared for the NBA draft, forward Allan Chaney opted to transfer and incoming freshman DeShawn Painter asked to be released from his scholarship. Throw in Marreese Speights (left early for NBA), Jonathan Mitchell (transferred last spring), and Jai Lucas (transferred just days before this past season), and Donovan could lose as many as seven players in about a year.
