NCAA: Membership Costs Less in 2009-10

The NCAA will not require schools to pay $900-$1,800 in membership dues for 2009-10 to help them reduce costs during the recession. The Executive Committee decided to suspend the dues for all members of Division I, II and III, and the move will help schools save a combined $1.3 million. Schools’ fees range based on the level of competition in which their teams play. An NCAA press release explains the move and indicates that the organization might try to help cut other costs.

The dues suspension is part of a tiered approach the national office is taking to reduce the financial burden on NCAA member schools. Other potential changes include a review currently underway in the Division I governance structure regarding possible legislative or procedural changes that have a direct impact on institutional budgets.
