Former Kansas forward Quintrell Thomas has transferred to UNLV and will be ready to suit up for the Runnin’ Rebels after sitting out 2009-10 because of NCAA transfer rules, a Mountain West Conference release states.
The 6-8 Thomas averaged 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 5.4 minutes per game last season as a true freshman. He scored a career-high 10 points against New Mexico State Dec. 3. The Jayhawks won the Big 12 Conference and advanced to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated to Michigan State.
Thomas averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds during his senior year at Saint Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J.
“Quintrell is an athletic big man and we are excited to have him as part of our program,” UNLV head coach Lon Kruger said. “He will make us better next year as our guys work against him in practice every day, and, of course, when he does have a chance to play, he has the ability to be a difference-maker.”
