A report from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review states that senior shooting guard Jermaine Dixon, the only returning starter for a Pittsburgh team that went 31-5 and made it into the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight last season, could be sidelined for eight weeks. Officials suspect he has a broken fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.
Dixon, who averaged 8.4 points and 1.4 steals per game in 2008-09, visited Pitt trainers last week after feeling pain in his foot. The preliminary diagnosis was a fractured fifth metatarsal. The 6-3 guard is scheduled to have more tests and, if the injury is confirmed, will undergo surgery. He would likely be out until mid-September, a month prior to the start of the 2009-10 season.
