Teams in Montana will be allowed to host NCAA championship games after the NCAA Executive Committee agreed to a gambling policy on Thursday that did not disqualify the state from doing so, according to a Big Sky Conference release. This is wonderful news to conference members Montana and Montana State.
The policy disqualifies states with single-game wagering for high school, college or professional sports. The policy does not affect states that offer parlay betting, lottery tickets or sports pools/pull tabs. Montana has pools and sports tabs in addition to a fantasy sports game for professional sports.
Other states might have to reconsider their wagering policies. Delaware has been fighting to get gambling on single games and other sports besides professional football.
The Big Sky, however, is pleased with the NCAA’s plan.
“We are very happy with the policy adopted Thursday by the NCAA Executive Committee,’’ said Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton “Not only does this ruling allow the state of Montana to continue to host football playoff games, but allows Montana institutions the opportunity to host predetermined NCAA Championship events.’’
