Former Louisiana Tech and European league player Lavelle Felton died from a gunshot to the head earlier this week, according to an Associated Press report.
Felton, 29, was leaving a Milwaukee gas station Wednesday morning when he was shot, said a police spokeswoman through e-mail. The statement didn’t say whether arrests had been made.
Felton averaged 13.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for Louisiana Tech in 2002-03 before emigrating to Europe to start his professional career. Last season, he played for Paderborn in the Bundesliga, Germany’s top league.
Friends were saddened to learn of the shooting.
“He was a humble person,” said high school friend James Scott in a phone interview. “He never got into trouble.”
