Nebraska: Niemann Tears ACL and Will Miss Season

Nebraska sophomore center Christopher Niemann tore an ACL in a knee and will miss all of the 2009-10 season, according to the Associated Press.

Niemann was ruled eligible after missing last season because he played on a German team with some professional players. Coach Doc Sadler had hoped that NIemann’s size would make the Huskers more competitive in the deep Big 12 this season.

Nebraska will try to fill the big man’s spot with two players. The NCAA will allow the Huskers to have 14 scholarship players this season after a communications snafu resulted in Nebraska giving a scholarship to a recruit when it thought the NCAA had ruled Christian Standhardinger, a German forward, ineligibile.

NCAA officials decided Standhardiner qualified academically but did not want to strip the scholarship from the other player because the NCAA was at fault for failing to notify the university that the grading scale for German players had changed.
