New Indiana State guard Jake Kelly can play this season after transferring from Iowa because the NCAA granted him a waiver from the rule that forces transfers to sit out a season, according to the Indianapolis Star.
The NCAA decided to grant the waiver to Kelly because he transferred to be closer to his father. Kelly’s mother died in a plane crash in June 2008, and the NCAA considered his “extraordinary personal circumstances.”
Kelly is a junior this season and has two years of remaining eligibility. He averaged 11.6 points per game last season at Iowa.
