Duke freshman guard Andre Dawkins is out indefinitely to be with his family after his sister died in a three-car crash on Interstate 77 in West Virginia this past weekend, according to an Associated Press report.
Dawkins’ sister Lacey Dawkins was on her way to Durham, N.C., for the Blue Devils’ game against St. John’s Saturday when she and Dawkins’ mother, Tamara Hill, were involved in the accident. In a statement, coach Mike Krzyzewski said the team’s thoughts and prayers are with the Dawkins family.
Duke beat St. John’s 80-71 Saturday and will not play again until Dec. 15 against Gardner-Webb. Dawkins averages 9.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 20.0 minutes per game for Duke, which does not have much depth in the backcourt.
