Editors’ note: The Total Impact Quotient is an elaborate ratings formula for players’ performance. It takes strong consideration into a player’s performance relative to the rest of the team. For more information, check out a complete introduction to the TIQ.
Although Washington dropped its first Pac-10 game, against Stanford, during the past three weeks, the Huskies have solidified their status as top dogs in the conference.
Junior point guard Isaiah Thomas has been completely unleashed during the past few weeks, en route to the No. 1 spot among Pac-10 guards, according to the Total Impact Quotient ratings. Thomas is up to a TIQ of 13.0 points per 40 minutes, and his recent play has been exceptional. During the past three weeks, Thomas is shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and getting to the free throw line nearly nine times per game, which have helped him post 20.5 points per game. In addition, Thomas continues to contribute in other ways, grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game and averaging an astounding 9.5 assists per game.
When considering Thomas’ contributions through scoring and assists, he’s accounting for about 45 points per game, or more than half of the Huskies 87 points per game. That’s an astounding total and percentage. But he doesn’t need to do everything alone.
While Thomas is the No. 1 guard in TIQ in the Pac-10, he has four other teammates who are in the top 10 for their position: Aziz N’Diaye (No. 2 of 6 centers), Matthew Bryan-Amaning (No. 5 of 31 forwards), Venoy Overton (No. 6 of 49 guards) and Justin Holiday (No. 9 forward). Abdul Gaddy, who is out for the season with a knee injury, would be the No. 9 guard. The Huskies have a host of weapons, and a supremely talented point guard to lead them. That makes Washington an under-the-radar Final Four contender.
Here are the latest ratings for the Pac-10, through games of Saturday Jan. 29.
