For two weeks, nearly every team in Division I will get a chance to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The road to the Big Dance starts with 30 conference tournaments — the Ivy League gives its auto bid to the regular-season champ. We preview each conference tournament as […]

March to Madness 11.0: Happy Selection Sunday!
Selection Sunday is here. We’re down to the final hours before the selection committee reveals this year’s NCAA Tournament bracket, and there’s still potential for drama this afternoon. Based on my latest projections, Tennessee should be very nervous. The Volunteers are the last team in right now, which means they’d […]
March to Madness 10.0: Championship Saturday could instigate seeding chaos
Friday provided plenty of surprises, with a potential No. 1 seed, Kansas, going down, to a team that’s moving up the S-curve, Baylor. Among the non-power conferences, the WAC favorite, Nevada, fell to Louisiana Tech late last night, opening the door for New Mexico State to claim the conference’s automatic […]
A look back on Notre Dame advancing to the Big East Semis
Before Friday’s Big East Tournament semifinal games, a lot of talk centered on the matchup a night earlier between Notre Dame and South Florida, a game played at a very deliberate pace. What impact might that have on the Irish’s matchup with Louisville?

March to Madness 9.0: Year of the Dragon approaches
I recently bemoaned that Drexel’s loss to VCU in the CAA title game would relegate the Dragons to the NIT, with some barely deserving major conference team squeezing into the NCAA Tournament with 12 or 13 losses. Not so fast. After a day of madness and general lackluster performances by […]
Not a season to remember for Wake Forest
Although it wasn’t quite as bad as last season, this was hardly one for the books for Wake Forest. After an 82-60 blowout loss against Maryland on Thursday, the Demon Deacons finished 13-18 overall. That doesn’t seem so bad, and a few teams had worse records, but look deeper and you see a team that, quite simply, was not good.
How I voted for All-District 1 and All-America in 2012
Here’s a look at how I voted for All-District 1 and All-America, as well as major awards, for the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The ballot was due at midnight this past Sunday.
