Dayton ends Fordham’s season

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – What is it about the Atlantic 10 and efficiency? Dayton defeated Fordham 87-74 in the second game on Thursday at Barclays Center. The numbers of note:

Possessions : Dayton 72, Fordham 70
Offensive efficiency: Dayton 124, Fordham 103

The Flyers shot 68 percent eFG percentage with a solid 16 percent turnover rate. Eve Sanford, a redshirt senior guard, paced the Flyers with 23 points, not missing a shot. Sanford was 9 of 9 from the floor and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. Sanford logged 23 minutes and allowed Dayton to enjoy a 35-15 edge in bench scoring.

Branden Frazier grew up near Barclays and finished his career here with a 30-point outing. The Rams defeated George Mason last night and ended Fordham’s season with a 10-21 mark. Dayton improved to 23-9. Fordham trailed by 21 late in the first half and 19 at the break. “At halftime we talked about having pride,” said Fordham coach Tom Pecora. The final twenty minutes saw the Rams get within six with just over eight minutes left. The Flyers regrouped and finished the contest.

“The first half we came out like we ran out of gas,” Pecora said. “The second half we played like we should. As a team we need depth but I think we really improved as he year went on.”
